Opening credits.

"A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens."

Charles Dickens was a prolific writer, social critic and a bona fide celebrity in his day. He is often regarded as the greatest novelist of the Victorian era and is known for his colorful characters which often portray the plight of the working class.

Dickens first achieved success with the serial publication "The Pickwick Papers," and perfected the modern cliffhanger ending. He would go on to write such classics as "A Tale of Two Cities," "Oliver Twist" and of course his beloved "A Christmas Carol," a re-imagining of Christmas that hitherto little existed in Victorian England. That warm endearing portrait of Christmas continues to this day and is one of the reasons for the story's timelessness.
