Jigs: The Yellow Wattle, I Have Money in Both Pockets, Kelly the Rake

about

All three of these jigs come from O'Neill's Book of Irish Music. The first jig The Yellow Wattle is typically played in D but we love it in G as you hear here.

The second and third tunes are rarely played in sessions which is a shame because they're great tunes and a lot of fun to play! I suspect the third tune Kelly the Rake might get ignored quite a bit because it modulates from the very flute-friendly key of G to the very unfriendly one of Bb. It is the only traditional tune in all of Irish music I've ever encountered with this modulation.
