Felipe do Violino

about

Our pandeiro-player Bidu Campeche suggested I compose a tune written specifically for the violin that would showcase the mechanics, language, and range of the violin, so I wrote this piece. Felipe do Violino means "Phillip of the violin" in Portuguese which was a nickname given to me by Moisa, a wonderful woman in Rio who self-proclaimed herself my adopted Brazilian grandmother. Whenever I perform this piece I always dedicate it to her and include the anecdote of how at my performances in Rio de Janeiro she would always sit on the front row and wait with mentos to give me as a special little gift after the show.
